A lot of articles/blogs/views have been doing the rounds since Karvachauth last week. Celebrities like Twinkle Khanna were mocking the ritual, though observing it. Not to forget that the same blog was circulated last year too. So, no newness there. It was cute that many women were sharing it on their walls to showcase their modernity. More people were blogging across social media and shouting out to the world that they were really oh-so-cool to even consider observing something as disastrously backward as Karvachauth. Kudos!!! Only, why did you feel so compelled to shout it out?
A few friends even mocked me over observing it. Yes, I do hold it against you. One even went as far as saying, “I thought you were more modern than this.” Well my answer to all and sundry: My modernity and broad-mindedness lies in not judging or ridiculing anyone’s choice. My strength of character lies in my ability of letting people be. Live and let live, if you please. I don’t question your cynicism. Don’t question or mock my actions. You don’t have a right. Just as I don’t over you.
I even read on a blog where the author said that the contents of her tummy can’t determine her husband’s lifespan. SLOW-CLAP on that!!! Everyone of us, even my mother who observes it for over 30 years, is aware of this.
I won’t share why I follow this ritual. That is my business. I don’t care why you don’t. That’s your business. I leave you alone with your choices. Please extend the same courtesy my way and hold your peace.
It is wonderful to have opinions. Only, don’t voice out all of them and sound like an absolute idiot.
